About Practical Norway

Why Practical Norway exists

Modern waterfront architecture in Oslo

Norway becomes much easier to plan once you understand how the pieces fit together. The difficult part is getting that context before you arrive.

I live in Oslo and created Practical Norway to explain the decisions that repeatedly confuse visitors: how much territory is realistic, whether you need a car, how trains and ferries fit together, where to base yourself, and how to avoid building an unnecessarily complicated itinerary.

I’m originally from the United States, which also means I know what Norway looks like from the outside—and which assumptions visitors often bring with them.

Practical Norway doesn’t book trips. The goal is to give you enough context to make better decisions yourself.

Traveler questions

What’s confusing you about your Norway trip?

I’m collecting real planning questions from travelers. I can’t promise an individual response, but useful questions may be answered privately or turned into an anonymized guide that helps other travelers.

Ask a question
01

“Can we realistically do Oslo, Bergen and Geiranger in seven days?”

02

“If we’re taking trains most of the trip, is it worth renting a car for two days?”

03

“We’re flying home from Oslo at 11 a.m. Where should we stay the night before?”
